LED hanging garden

Love this Arduino project by The Clorofilas and Aer Studio
Using moisture sensors, LED lights and Arduino to link everything up, they have created a visual indication of which plants need watering.

Can’t help but feel this video’s a bit dissapointing though. Would have been nice to do a stop frame showing the lights going on/off over time and snippets of people watering the plants…

More pics here

Would love to see some more similar projects…

Future of children’s books?

After the future of music, why not feature the future of Children’s books. After all, if you’re going to create a digital version of a book, you might as well use all the tools digital provides and make it an experience.

This is beautiful, and if I had an iPad I would buy it…

Didn’t know this but apparently iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro running Chrome or Firefox support motion events from your screen…

These guys have picked up on it and created a cute javascript function that uses this …

Physical computing’s greatest hits

I loved this blog post from Tom Igoe, an physical computing teacher in NY

http://www.tigoe.net/blog/category/physicalcomputing/176/

It categorises some of the most frequent recurring themes in physical computing. The post is very well written, but most of all it made me smile as I think every single installation I’ve posted about reflects at least one of these themes.

It made me think back of the project I did for my MA course:

a body-as-cursor if ever I saw one…

The list is a great basis for inspiration though, how many can you cram in one project together would be a nice challenge…

Volkswagen treasure hunt

Love this idea from Volkswagen: a Google Maps treasure hunt, the map zoomed all the way out, and the only way to zoom in was by getting enough tweets with the a certain hash tag. Once the location was zoomed in enough it was a real live race to get there first… Smart idea to generate buzz and at the same time reward fans who engage with the brand.

Thanks to Rob for this one
